Leland Jerome Munie

Leland Jerome Munie, 81, of Belleville, IL, born March 21, 1928, in O’Fallon, IL, died Thursday, September 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL.            

Mr. Munie retired from Ameritech as a central office technician after 37 years of service.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Belleville, IL, and a longtime troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America.  Leland was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.    

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Henke; his parents, Jerome J. and Mary Elizabeth, nee Lanter, Munie; a brother, Melvin Munie; a foster brother, Robert Raish; and a sister-in-law, Pat Munie.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Geraldine C., nee Henneberry, Munie, whom he married June 28, 1952; four sons and a daughter, Charles J. (Maria) Munie of Tucson, AZ, Lawrence A. (Shelly) Munie of Grayslake, IL, Janet L. (Harold) Collins of Columbia, IL, Paul J. Munie of Belleville, IL, and Jerome J. Munie of Edwardsville, IL; a son-in-law, Roger Henke of Belleville, IL; eight grandchildren, Eric, Erin, and Andrew “AJ” Munie, Matthew and Heather Collins, and Ryan, Kristen, and Elizabeth Henke; a brother, Delmer E. “Jack” Munie of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Shirley M. (Calvin) Truttmann of Millstadt, IL, and Jeannene C. (Louis) Villemain of Belleville, IL; a sister-in-law, Katherine Munie of Belleville, IL; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, September 5, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday, September 5, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.  Cremation will follow the services.

Burial with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
